Canada and Alberta fund 27 rural internet projects, including Arrow fibre for four northern communities

On January 30, 2026, the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta announced funding for high-speed internet projects across the province. According to the federal backgrounder, 95.3% of Alberta households had access to high-speed internet (at least 50/10 Mbps) as of January 2026, up from 82.6% in 2017, and the target is 98.6% by the end of 2026.

Arrow's project

One federally funded project (UBFP-99261) is Arrow Technology Group's: $24,535,575 in federal funding to bring fibre to 1,059 households in Whitefish Lake, Kikino Métis Settlement, Sandy Lake and Calling Lake, with an estimated completion date of December 2026.

The other 26 projects

The same announcement listed 26 more projects, supported by $224.78 million from both governments, built by other providers including Xplore, MCSnet, Missing Link Internet, Slave Lake Communications, Mage Networks, Tough Country Communications, Switch Inc. and several counties.
